Abstract

Primary, secondary, and tertiary recovery are the three steps of oil recovery. Primary recovery relies on natural reservoir pressure which declines over time, reducing production. Secondary recovery uses water or gas injection to increases pressure but is limited due to viscous fingering and early gas breakthrough. Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) are tertiary recovery method that use foam injection, but foam becomes unstable under harsh reservoir conditions which reduce extraction efficiency. This study used iron oxide/silica dioxide (Fe₂O₃/SiO₂) composite incorporated with cocamidopropyl betaine (CAPB) surfactant to produce a nanoparticle-stabilized foam to improve oil extraction efficiency.
