Abstract

The present review article will critically discuss the antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and re-mineralizing properties of propolis in relation to dental caries management. Dental caries is still a significant health problem worldwide due to the drawbacks of conventional therapies and bacteria resistance to standard antimicrobials. Propolis is a natural resinous product of bees that has recently gained promising therapeutic potential due to its complex bioactive composition. The present study has focused on the mechanisms of propolis against oral pathogens, modes of preparation for dental applications, and safety considerations. In such a way, the study will contribute to a better understanding and further development of new, affordable dental care products based on propolis.
