Abstract

An adequate and high-quality public space is characterized by the diversity of activities, the availability of spaces that facilitate social interaction, and the alignment with individual perceptions. To accommodate these aspects, cities introduce urban parks as a medium for outdoor spatial engagement. As a social community, people perceive urban parks as vibrant and meaningful when a sense of attachment and frequent social interactions occur within these spaces. Accordingly, this study seeks to identify and evaluate the factors influencing place attachment in the urban parks of Banda Aceh. A quantitative research design was employed, involving the distribution of questionnaires across three major parks, followed by an Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) to extract the underlying dimensions of place attachment. The findings reveal seven newly derived factors from the initial ten dimensions of place attachment. Among these, the quality and interactional characteristics of the environment emerged as the most dominant component, with an eigenvalue of 7.87, signifying its pivotal role in shaping visitors’ sense of place attachment.
