IDENTIFICATION OF LOCAL WISDOM FOR SUSTAINABLE TOURISM DEVELOPMENT IN GAMPONG NUSA, ACEH BESAR

Gampong Nusa in Aceh Besar Regency possesses considerable tourism potential due to its natural landscape and entrenched local wisdom, yet this potential has not been fully leveraged to enhance community welfare. This research systematically investigates the elements of local wisdom that can support sustainable tourism initiatives in the village. Employing a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through field observations, semi-structured interviews with residents and tourism stakeholders, and descriptive analysis to evaluate both opportunities and constraints. The results indicate four primary pillars of local wisdom: (1) communal cultural traditions, (2) local culinary practices, (3) traditional handicrafts, and (4) historical heritage. These pillars provide a foundation for integrated tourism packages that combine cultural, gastronomic, craft, and heritage experiences, contributing to local income generation while safeguarding cultural identity and ecological balance. The study proposes a conceptual framework for embedding local wisdom into community-based sustainable tourism, offering both practical guidance for destination development and a theoretical model applicable to other regions with similar socio-cultural and environmental profiles.
