https://journal.uitm.edu.my/ojs/index.php/AJUE/article/view/5467

Speaking skill is an important predictor in graduate employability. Many job seekers suffer from speaking anxiety and this has affected their job employment opportunities. The focus of this research is to examine the TVET undergraduates’ speech anxiety level and determine what makes them apprehensive when speaking. The study also finds out the anxiety level differences between male and female TVET learners. The 313 research participants who answered McCroskey's Personal Report of Public Speaking Anxiety (PRPSA) questionnaire were undergraduates from a public technical university. The findings revealed that the learners had moderate levels of speech anxiety (M= 115.7) and t-test results indicated that the mean scores for speaking anxiety levels of male and female learners did not differ in a way that was statistically significant though TVET female learners (M=113.30, SD =14.309) experienced slightly higher levels of speaking anxiety compared to their male counterparts (M=111.58, SD=15.996). The idea of giving a speech sent fears to the learners while losing concentrations during speech heightened the learners’ speech anxiety level. Higher learning institutions could include public speaking trainings in their TVET syllabi. Additional soft skill such as public speaking helps ensure TVET graduates become industry priority in the employment market.

Keywords: Speech anxiety, Public speaking, Soft skill, TVET, Graduate employability
Subatira BalakrishnanNurlisa Loke AbdullahLinda Khoo Mei SuiJoseph Alagiaraj Thambu Raj

https://journal.uitm.edu.my/ojs/index.php/AJUE/article/view/5442

The Covid-19 pandemic has led to an increase in plastic waste, especially in food delivery packaging, prompting the need to educate future designers on sustainable packaging. Researchers conducted a post-pandemic study with 48 students in packaging design classes at two universities. The students were tasked with designing packaging for various food products, demonstrating the creative process involved in food delivery packaging. The students followed an action research process model, presented a preliminary prototype, and underwent pre- and post-test experiments to explore the impact of the ecological consideration curriculum on their soft skills and experiential learning. During the implementation process, students faced many educational challenges, including material limitations, balancing environmental responsibility with functionality, and improving designs based on feedback. Throughout the different phases, the students learned to adapt, think innovatively, collaborate, and improve their designs for sustainable packaging solutions. Experimental results showed that the curriculum program stimulated academic learning, developed problem-solving skills, and engaged students in real-life experiences. This research provides a case study for continuously improving packaging design courses, considering Sustainable Development Goals and emerging issues in packaging practice
Hwee Ling SiekYa-Kuan ChouChi-Hung LoSirada Vaiyavatjamai

https://journal.uitm.edu.my/ojs/index.php/AJUE/article/view/5444

Public trust towards accountants has changed due to renowned financial scandals by large companies. Before becoming accountants, they were once accounting students. Accounting students are the future accountants, auditors, and finance professionals, and they hope for a responsible group of professionals. Therefore, applying the Theory of Planned Behaviour, this study examines the factors influencing whistleblowing intention among final year accounting undergraduates. This study focuses on moral reasoning, retaliation, and negative emotions (guilt and shame) as factors for whistleblowing intention. The approach for this study is a cross-sectional study that will gather data utilising a questionnaire survey and a purposive sample design. Three hundred sets of questionnaires were distributed to final year accountancy undergraduate students, and 257 questionnaires managed to be collected, achieving a response rate of 85.66 per cent. The main finding suggests that moral reasoning and guilt have a significant positive relationship with whistleblowing intention. Meanwhile, retaliation and shame have a significant negative relationship with whistleblowing intention. Thus, this study helps fill the research gap in the Malaysian accounting profession and increases the awareness of the intention to whistle-blow among accounting students.
Sharifah Norzehan Syed YusufAnve De Brenda Ann RamleeSalwa ZolkaflilFarah Aida Ahmad NadzriMaslinawati Mohamad

https://journal.uitm.edu.my/ojs/index.php/AJUE/article/view/5481

STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) are widely recognised for a country's development. In Malaysia, integrating arts into STEM education started over 20 years ago with the introduction of Kurikulum Bersepadu Sekolah Rendah (KBSR) and Kurikulum Bersepadu Sekolah Menengah (KBSM). However, some worried that art could divert focus from core STEM skills. This research aims to develop an effective Science module by consulting experts. The module to be developed has gone through the need analysis phase from secondary students and teachers. They faced challenges teaching and learning about energy and sustainability. However, they agreed that arts could aid understanding. In this study, the researcher interviewed six lectures of visual art, science and curriculum developers in the design and development phase. The semi-structured interview consists of six main questions: Demographics of respondents, Visual Arts Aids, Supporting Materials, Teaching Techniques, Activities, and Exercises suitable to design and develop the Science module. This phase is intended to gather the aspects to be considered in selecting an appropriate teaching technique, genre, level, context, the ability of the students, duration of the lesson, and teacher’s experience. The experts shared information on the curriculum aspect, such as evaluation, learning outcome, duration of the implementation, and other resources. Besides that, the experts also offered information on the design and technical aspects of the module. These interviews were transcribed, and the themes that arose from the interview were used to design the Fuzzy Delphi Method instrument. The experts said that thoughtfully integrating visual arts can help students comprehend complex concepts. However, they stressed that art must directly connect to scientific principles. It should complement, not obscure, the STEM focus. With this guidance, the module can leverage the arts to engage students while maintaining rigour. Experts emphasised striking the right balance - using art to reinforce STEM, not displace it. Their insights will shape an integrated curriculum to equip students for the future.
SITI SORAYA BINTI RAMLISiti Zuraida binti MaarufNabilah binti Abdullah

https://journal.uitm.edu.my/ojs/index.php/AJUE/article/view/5586

Abstract: Amidst the ongoing new liberal arts education reform in China, foreign language programmes encounter both challenges and opportunities. Traditionally, foreign language education has emphasized linguistic skills, and yet overlooked the development of professional qualities and employability, thus leading to low rate of graduate employment, reduction of the enrollment scale or even cancellation of foreign language programmes. In response, this study proposed a holistic model that integrates career education into foreign language programmes targeted for improving students’ professional competence and employment competitiveness. The researchers selected the integration in Shandong Jianzhu University as a case study in which questionnaire survey responses were collected from the faculty leaders and teachers, alumni, students, parents, employers and education experts, and Analytic Hierarchy Process and contrast analysis were utilized to analyse the effect of career education integration. The findings showed that cultivation process is valued as the most important factor followed by teaching effectiveness and that not only the employment rate of graduates and also the ratio of high-quality employment have increased. It has been tested that this new integration model is fruitful in promoting the development of foreign language programmes and offers new theoretical support and practical guidance for the revitalization of foreign language programmes.
SHIKUN SHANKaarthiyainy SupramaniamAfandi Ibrahim

https://journal.uitm.edu.my/ojs/index.php/AJUE/article/view/5563

In recent years, Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) has received widespread attention as an expression of cultural diversity and a representation for maintaining national cultural identities. It has been widely used as a resource for teaching and learning in the curriculum. China, being one of the countries with the largest repository of intangible cultural heritage, has attracted the interest of educators in many regions to this endangered yet rich and brilliant heritage. As curriculum resource research has emerged, the study of ICH as a curriculum resource has gradually become a popular topic in education research across various disciplines, including fine arts education. Although there is extensive literature exploring the application of ICH in fine arts education in secondary schools in China, there is no systematic review that summarizes these teaching methods and practices. Therefore, this research aims to explore the pedagogical applications of ICH in the fine arts curriculum in secondary schools in China, identifying the current types of ICH as course resources, curriculum designs, teaching methods and practices, future challenges as well as potential recommendations, and research perspectives. Utilizing the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) methodology, an exhaustive search was conducted across three multidisciplinary databases from 2019 to 2023 with specified inclusion and exclusion criteria. This systematic review further reveals the significance of ICH as a valuable educational resource that fosters cultural identity, critical thinking, and creative expression, while also offering critical insights for enhancing pre-service fine arts teacher education to effectively integrate ICH into their teaching practices.
YANCE ZENGHarrinni Md NoorMuhammad Faiz Sabri

https://journal.uitm.edu.my/ojs/index.php/AJUE/article/view/5622

Within the Malaysian educational landscape, the grading practices and classroom-based assessment strategies adopted by preservice school teachers have become a crucial area of investigation as they may significantly impact students' academic achievements and overall learning experiences. The primary aim of this study is to explore the relationship between teachers' grading practices (TGP) and CBA practices among preservice school teachers. TGP encompasses five dimensions: Importance (IMPC), Student Effort (STUE), Student Ability (STUAB), Usefulness (USE), and Teachers' Grading Habits (TGH). A quantitative research design, specifically a survey-based approach, was employed in this study. The instrument was developed and validated through face and content validity, a pilot study, and Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA). The quantitative data were primarily analysed using Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM). A total of 338 preservice teachers from 4 public universities in Selangor participated in the study, completing a 5-point Likert-scale questionnaire. Findings indicate that among the five dimensions, IMPC, STUE, and TGH significantly influence CBA practices, whereas STUAB and USE do not. The results suggest that preservice teachers prioritise student effort and well-established grading habits in their assessment strategies, reinforcing the importance of structured and transparent grading approaches. However, the limited impact of student ability and perceived usefulness on CBA implementation highlights the challenges of aligning grading practices with educational assessment frameworks. This study contributes to the understanding of grading practices in Malaysian teacher education by identifying key factors that shape assessment decisions. The findings highlight the need for continuous refinement of assessment strategies to ensure consistency and fairness in student evaluations.
Shahazwan Mat Yusoff

https://journal.uitm.edu.my/ojs/index.php/AJUE/article/view/5635

Effective leaders or managers tend to make effective decisions. Measuring one's leadership in terms of decision-making is getting more and more relevant to many organisations since this would predict managers’ or leaders’ reactions to various working situations and their influence on organisational success. The current study attempts to bring a new perspective on how the Managerial Decision-Making Styles Inventory (DMSI), originally developed by Alan Rowe and Mason in 1987, can be further explored, improved and used by various organisations including academic setting in higher education. The DMSI instrument, which was originally developed using a semantic scale, can no longer be friendly to many researchers or statisticians at the current time. Thus, this research provides a set of new scales for the original instrument by changing and increasing the original scales to six Likert’s scales using the Rasch measurement model. From the Rasch outputs, the item separation of 20.47 indicated that all items created a variable that spread about 20 levels. The item's reliability was 1.00, which is considered acceptable and perfect in measurement. The values of the infit MNSQ ranged from 0.77 to 1.87, while the values of the outfit MNWQ ranged from 0.57 to 6.37, respectively. The standardised Residual Variance of managerial decision-making styles was explained by measures of 69.1%, which indicated a strong measurement dimension. With these results, the researchers concluded that the DMSI instrument by Rowe and Mason can be used to measure any organisational managerial decision-making styles. Some implications and recommendations were also provided for the best and most effective decision-making styles and practices.
Ismail Hussein AmzatLEELE SUSANA JAMIAN JAMIANHabibat Abubakar Yusuf⁴ Muhajir Taslikhan

https://journal.uitm.edu.my/ojs/index.php/AJUE/article/view/5629

Prescribing errors are known to account for a substantial proportion of all medication errors which could lead to morbidity and mortality of patients in clinical settings. Considering the number of deaths due to prescribing error, many developed countries such as the United Kingdom have commenced educational assessment to enforce good prescribing techniques to all medical graduates before they start their clinical practice. However, in Malaysia, there is no standardised or specific curriculum or programme that enforces the understanding of prescribing skills and its safety to the undergraduates. As a result, high prescribing errors were seen among housemen and junior medical officers. In view of the current curriculum and related problems, an online micro-credential course on ‘Guide to Good Prescribing Skill’ was developed by the members of Department of Pharmacology, Faculty of Medicine, UiTM to fill the gap. This paper describes the course development. The course covers the theory behind the importance of good prescribing skills as recommended by WHO and the steps to prescribe drugs according to patient diagnosis. The development of this prescribing skill module will help in giving a structured learning experience to medical students and may improve their readiness and competency when starting real clinical practice graduation. It is hoped that this course will be an effective way of learning prescribing skills and serve to prevent errors from happening.
NOOR FAHITAH ABU HANIPAHMohd Huzaimi HaronNorhafiza RazaliSiti Norsyafika KamarudinNorasikin Ab AzisNafeeza Mohd Ismail

https://journal.uitm.edu.my/ojs/index.php/AJUE/article/view/5677

Abstract: By exploring the relationship between organizational support and teachers' professional development, this study searched for the determinants of teachers' professional development towards sustainability in Chinese medical universities. Despite advances in the relevant literature, there is still a lack of empirical research examining the promotion of teacher professional development within the same model. After going through the literature review, the research model and research hypotheses were formulated. A quantitative investigation was also conducted and the hypothesized relationships were tested using structural equation modelling on 606 data samples. It was found that organizational support directly and significantly affects teachers' self-efficacy, professional identity and professional ideals; the findings further suggest that self-efficacy and professional ideals mediate the relationship between organizational support and teacher professional development. Whereas the direct relationship between organizational support and teacher professional development was not significant, professional identity did not play a mediating effect between them. The findings from the study guide managers to be more effective in carrying out organizational behaviors that promote teacher professional development. The study further improved managers' understanding of the relationship between organizational support and teacher professional development. Although there has been some previous causal research discussing how to promote teacher professional development. However, there have been few studies focusing on empirical studies combining individual differences, environment, and behavioral outcomes, and there is a gap, especially in the local medical university faculty population.
Lu LiuBoo Ho VoonMuhammad Iskandar HamzahJiajie He

https://journal.uitm.edu.my/ojs/index.php/AJUE/article/view/5678

Abstract: Self-efficacy is defined as an individual’s belief in their capacity to organize and carry out the actions required to attain objectives. Academic research has consistently highlighted the increasing significance of self-efficacy for both pre-service and in-service teachers. This scoping review provides a detailed overview of the evaluation of self-efficacy among pre-service and in-service teachers, focusing on the validity measurement approaches, reliability assessment methods, and specific contextual applications. This research reviewed papers in the Scopus, Education Resources Information Centre (ERIC), and ScienceDirect databases regardless of years. From an initial pool of 22,053 documents, 40 studies met the eligibility criteria and were included in the review. The findings show that content and construct validity were frequently emphasized in the research methodologies. Internal consistency coefficients were the most used method for evaluating the reliability of measurement scales. Most studies concentrated on the broader educational field. This review highlights the necessity of a nuanced and comprehensive approach to validity assessment in research on teacher self-efficacy.
Riyan HidayatAhmad Fauzi Mohd AyubHarris Shah Abd HamidNurihan Nasir

https://journal.uitm.edu.my/ojs/index.php/AJUE/article/view/5474

Line graphs serve as visual representations of quantitative information, aiding readers in comprehending extensive data, trends, and relationships. Given their widespread use in daily life, it is expected that everyone can make sense of line graphs. This paper proposes and validates a sense-making perspective, and it reports on the ways mathematics undergraduates make sense of a context-based line graph. Data were collected through a line graph task and semi-structured interviews. The findings indicate that the mathematics undergraduates made sense of the graph through perception, operation, and reason. This paper contributes insights into how the participants make sense of the line graph and offers evidence that can inform researchers, educators and curriculum developers about the validity of the framework. This framework can serve as a useful tool for future research in similar areas and potentially shape instructional approaches.
Kin Eng ChinFui Fong JiewJohan Eddy Luaran

https://journal.uitm.edu.my/ojs/index.php/AJUE/article/view/5518

This study aims to comprehensively understand the current status of Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) in ASEAN. It also shares the progress in implementing the action plans to enhance inclusive Quality PETE developed and revised by each ASEAN Member State (AMS) within the ASEAN-Japan cooperation framework since 2021. The situation around PETE, particularly the post-COVID-19 outbreak in each AMS, has been investigated based on the information furnished by the project representatives assigned by each government to develop action plans, and the contents and implementation process were thematically monitored and analysed using process-tracing research design. It was found that 1) PETE for in-service teachers and 2) teaching resource provisions were the centre of attention commonly, with slight differences among AMS, 3) in reflection of the concept of inclusion and 4) in priority of PETE program reform. Furthermore, the importance of 5) evidence-based policy advocacy and 6) stakeholders’ collaboration has started to be acknowledged. Although the outcomes and impacts are yet to be evaluated, the role of physical education (PE) in enhancing social-emotional well-being and health levels, besides the gradual increase in investment towards PE, needs to be better recognised and reflected in public policies. It will be effective to form a Professional Learning Community (PLC) in ASEAN, a platform that sets up a favourable environment for continued capacity development and regional interactions, eventually disseminating the ASEAN standards of inclusive PETE for Quality PE. These findings have significant implications for academic societies and policymakers, highlighting the need for a PLC collaborative approach to enhance the quality of inclusive PETE within the region.
Yoshinori Okade

https://journal.uitm.edu.my/ojs/index.php/AJUE/article/view/5769

Online learning has become an alternative strategy for teaching and learning at universities in almost all countries. Implementing this approach poses significant challenges, particularly for sports science students who engage predominantly in face-to-face activities centered on active learning due to the nature of their field of study. This research aimed to describe student’s perception of online learning at the university. The quantitative method was applied in this study by employing an online survey for sports science undergraduates from both universities. One hundred twenty (n=120) sports sciences students from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) and Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ) answered an online survey using a Google form written in Indonesian and Malay languages. It contained the following topics: (1) students' preparation for online learning; (2) students' experience with online learning; and (3), students' satisfaction with online learning. The scale was found to have construct validity and good internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha of 0.96). Participants were asked to rate each statement on a four-point Likert Scale, ranging from 1 (strongly disagree) to 4 (strongly agree). The results indicated no differences in the students’ perception of online learning between Malaysian and Indonesian sports science university students. Some recommendations to increase the quality of learning in post-pandemic situations are presented in the discussion section.
YufiartiJamatul Shahidah ShaariHerdiyan MaulanaAng Geik YongTaufik RihatnoSri NuraeniMahenderan Appukutty

https://journal.uitm.edu.my/ojs/index.php/AJUE/article/view/5770

The role of universities in the nation’s growth and development is considered vital since universities and HEIs are academic institutions that emerged as the key source of education, research, and innovation, as well as for social and economic development. In achieving the university’s vision and mission, several pertinent elements were identified and these include the university’s policies and the key focus areas (KFAs) for its strategic planning. These two elements along with the organisational values, both at the university and individual levels, were predicted to have strong linkages with the effectiveness of the university’s vision and mission. In this study, we examined the understanding of staff towards the university’s policies, KFAs, and also organisational values. Secondly, we also investigated whether the university’s policies, KFAs and organisational values have some influence on staff satisfaction. A total of 740 staff - both administrative, academic administrators, and academics - provided their standpoints on their understanding of the university’s policies, KFAs, and organisational values. The findings revealed that a majority of the staff has a clear understanding of the elements being studied. It was also found that organisational values were perceived as predictors of staff satisfaction.
Lokman Mohd TahirNarina A. SamahWahid OmarNorazah Abdul AzizHadijah JaffriSiti Aisyah Panatik
