The trend of film production that shows an increase from 2011 to 2015 in various genre, demonstrates the influence of films towards society. However, a lot of local films deliver less positive value towards the thought, education and character development. This could be attributed to the script writers, directors and producers’ passion to produce films that meet the taste of the public eventhough by showing excessive violence, khurafat and romantic elements. Meanwhile, the image of Islamic films was tainted with the issue of polygamy, shamanism and exaggerated death of ‘Tanah Kubur’ that portray a negative image of Islam. It is undeniable that there are also films that bring the messege of dakwah. Nevertheless, some of them still contain non-syariah compliant acts such as the bedroom scene and also the interaction between non-mahram male and female actors. This study is therefore significant in developing useful guidelines for film industry players to produce a more shariahcompliant film. The study adopts qualitative method based on content analysis. The findings of this study are expected to be used as guidelines in developing comprehensive criteria of shariah-compliant films.
