Abstract

Volunteers play a crucial role in helping students build confidence and develop essential skills. By fostering an inclusive environment where participation is based on individual abilities, regardless of gender, various factors may influence volunteers’ attitudes toward leadership behavior. This study examines key factors (behavioral, normative, and control beliefs) that shape volunteers’ attitudes toward leadership behavior in the Outdoor Curriculum Program at the Faculty of Sports Science and Recreation, UiTM. A total of 233 questionnaires were distributed to students across the Faculty of Sports Science and Recreation at UiTM in Peninsular Malaysia. This study employs a quantitative research design using a cross-sectional approach. The Volunteer Leadership Development Questionnaire (VLDQ), a validated 7-point Likert scale instrument, was used to collect data via an online survey. The study aimed to determine the factors influencing volunteers’ attitudes toward leadership behavior. Findings reveal no significant differences in behavioral and normative beliefs based on gender. However, control beliefs demonstrate a significant gender-based difference, indicating that volunteers’ confidence in their leadership abilities plays a crucial role in shaping attitudes toward leadership. Compared to behavioral and normative beliefs, control beliefs emerge as the most influential factor in volunteer leadership development.
