Educational institutions have embraced digitalisation and incorporated online learning as a crucial tool for teaching and learning process. This study aims to measure the relationship between the lecturers’ teaching strategies, the accessibility of equipment, and technological influence on students’ contentment with online education. Additionally, the study aims to compare students’ contentment levels of male and female students with online education. 150 participants enrolled in the Diploma in Mathematical Science programme at a prominent higher education institution in Kelantan were involved in this study. Data collection is done through self-administered questionnaires, and data analysis employed ordinary least squares estimation. The findings reveal significant relationships between teaching strategies, technological influence, and students’ contentment with online education. Notably, no discernible differences in contentment levels were observed between male and female students. The study offers valuable insights for higher education administrators and policymakers seeking to enhance students’ contentment with online education.
2024-06-19T00:00:00+08:00Copyright (c) 2024 Journal of Mathematics and Computing Sciencehttps://journal.uitm.edu.my/ojs/index.php/JMCS/article/view/1761Modeling Health-Related Quality of Life: Insights from Higher Education Students in Kelantan2024-06-19T07:39:55+08:00Mohd Azry Abdul Malikazry056@uitm.edu.myAniq Ridhwan Fauzianiq@gmail.comNorazlina Mohd Suzukinorazlina@gmail.comNur Ayuni Norzakiayuni@gmail.comIntan Suzieyana Romzaisuzie@gmail.comMohamad Norzamani Sahronimohamadnorzamani@uitm.edu.myJasrul Nizam Ghazalijasrul@uitm.edu.myOmar Kairanomarkr@uitm.edu.my

Prioritising the quality of life among students is essential, as it directly impacts their academic performance, mental health, and overall well-being, laying the foundation for lifelong success and fulfilment. This study aims to determine the relationships between physical activity, sleep quality, lifestyle, and quality of life among university students. Another objective is examining potential differences in life quality according to gender. The study employed stratified random sampling to choose 80 participants from a prominent higher education institution in Kelantan. Data was gathered via self-administered questionnaires. Multiple linear regressions and the independent t-test were used in data analysis. Significant relationships between lifestyle and quality of life are shown by the study’s findings. The findings also revealed that physical activity and sleep quality did not significantly influence quality of life. Notably, no discernible differences in quality of life levels were observed between male and female students. The study provides valuable insights for higher education administrators and policymakers to enhance positive health-related quality of life among students.
2024-06-19T00:00:00+08:00Copyright (c) 2024 Journal of Mathematics and Computing Sciencehttps://journal.uitm.edu.my/ojs/index.php/JMCS/article/view/1856Comparison of Some Numerical Methods for Solving Real-Life Nonlinear Equations by Using Python Programming2024-06-30T15:17:48+08:00Annie Gorgeyannie_gorgey@fsmt.upsi.edu.myZul Hafiezy Zulkiflyd095689@siswa.upsi.edu.myHaslinah Hassimd095668@siswa.upsi.edu.myFarah Adilla Azimd095688@siswa.upsi.edu.my

This research evaluates the efficiency and accuracy of some iterative methods for solving scalar nonlinear equations. The study focuses on four types of iterative methods, such as Newton-Raphson, Bisection, Secant, and Algorithm 1, a novel fourth-order and derivative-free root-finding algorithm exhibiting different convergence orders. The accuracy of these methods is tested numerically on some real-life nonlinear equations such as the fluid permeability problem, the blood rheology model, Van Der Wall’s and Planck’s radiation laws, and lastly, the beam design problem. Numerical experiments are conducted using the Python programming language with a tolerance of 10-14 and 10-15. The results indicate that the Secant method requires fewer iterations and CPU time if compared with Newton-Raphson, Bisection and Algorithm 1 in solving fluid permeability problems, blood rheology models, and Van Der Wall’s problems. The bisection method converges quickly compared with other methods for solving Planck’s radiation law, while Algorithm 1 converges quicker than other methods for solving the beam design problem. In terms of accuracy, the Secant method gives greater accuracy in solving fluid permeability and Van Der Wall’s problems. Meanwhile, for the blood rheology model, Newton Raphson's methods overcome other methods. On the other hand, the Bisection method gives greater accuracy for Planck’s radiation law and beam design problems. Algorithm 1 performance showed effective convergence to the root, but, in many cases, it encounters a division by zero issue. The study suggests extending investigations to Algorithm 1 refinement, comparative studies on various equation types, exploration of hybrid methods, real-world application and validation, and user-friendly implementation.
2024-06-30T00:00:00+08:00Copyright (c) 2024 Journal of Mathematics and Computing Sciencehttps://journal.uitm.edu.my/ojs/index.php/JMCS/article/view/3744The Role of Social Media in Shaping Academic Performance: A Case Study using Multiple Linear Regression Analysis2024-10-29T09:07:58+08:00Nornadiah Mohd Razalinornadiah@uitm.edu.myNur Aliessa Azizul Rahmanaliessaazizul@gmail.comNur Aqilah Hashimaqilahflamers@gmail.comAz’lina Abdul Hadiazlinahadi@uitm.edu.myNur Niswah Naslina Azid @ Maarofniswah@uitm.edu.myNuralina Azlannuralina@uitm.edu.my
In the era of rapid technological advancement, social media has become an integral part of the daily lives of students, offering a platform for connectivity, information sharing, and self-expression. While these platforms have undoubtedly revolutionised communication and networking, their influence on various aspects of an individual’s life, particularly on academic performance, has been a subject of growing concern and debate. This study delves into the impact of social media on students’ academic performance. The Social Media Addiction Questionnaire (SMAQ) and Social Media Engagement Questionnaire (SMEQ) instruments were adopted to measure social media addiction and social media engagement of the students, respectively. A Cumulative Grade Pointer Average (CGPA) was used to measure students’ academic performance. This study involved a total of 363 students selected from a public university in Malaysia through convenience sampling. A multiple linear regression analysis (MLR) was employed to analyse the impact of social media on academic performance. The results indicated that the time spent on social media per day, tolerance, and intense desire were significant predictors of students’ performance, while impaired control, harmful use, and social media engagement were not significant predictors of students’ performance. This research offers a comprehensive contribution by examining both the theoretical and practical dimensions of social media usage among students. Theoretically, it expands the current understanding of social media addiction by identifying specific dimensions – intense desire and tolerance – that significantly affect academic performance, emphasising the importance of viewing social media addiction as a multifaceted issue rather than a singular problem. It also provides insights into the mechanisms through which excessive social media use can hinder academic
2024-10-29T00:00:00+08:00Copyright (c) 2024 Journal of Mathematics and Computing Science
