This study aims to measure the relationship between students’ motivation, self-efficacy, and personality on academic achievement. Additionally, the study aims to compare students’ academic achievement levels between different genders. Employing simple random sampling with a 95% confidence level and a 10% margin of error, the study involved 78 participants from the Diploma in Mathematical Science program at a prominent higher education campus in Kelantan, Malaysia. Data collection was done through self-administered questionnaires, and data analysis employed ordinary least squares estimation and an independent t-test. The findings reveal only Motivation (p-value = 0.041) has significant relationships with students’ academic achievement. Notably, no discernible differences in academic achievement were observed between genders (p-value = 0.913). The study offers valuable insights for higher education administrators and policymakers seeking to enhance students’ academic achievement.
2024-12-06T00:00:00+08:00Copyright (c) 2024 Journal of Mathematics and Computing Sciencehttps://journal.uitm.edu.my/ojs/index.php/JMCS/article/view/4264The Reconstruction of the Quartic Bezier Curve Using Uniform Parameterisation2024-12-06T05:43:33+08:00Siti Sarah Raselisitisarahraseli@uitm.edu.myNorpah Mahatnorpah020@uitm.edu.my Wan Nur Ashilah Wan Muhammad Shafawiashilahshamihah94@gmail.comAhmad Ramlialaramli@usm.my

This study proposes the reconstruction of a higher Bezier curve using uniform parameterisation to improve the design of a curve. The parameterisation process is the key element in the reconstruction of the curve. The reconstruction process starts by selecting an image. Next, the boundary is extracted from the image. Using uniform parameterisation, the parameter value of the image is determined. Then, new control points for the image are calculated. In the next stage, the construction of the image is implemented. The finding displays an improved reconstruction compared to the initial curve. The reconstruction proposed in this study is provided with systematic and scientific techniques that can benefit designers, businesses, and the craft industry. The existing sign-in system is by taking attendance manually, and the attendance records are stored in a physical file. Therefore, the objective of this study is to develop a mobile application to automate the signing process and events’ data management. This study is motivated by the lengthy waiting time for participants to stand in a long queue and manually sign on a piece of paper. The attendance paper is then stored physically in a file, which is exposed to misplacement, damage, and loss. Additionally, retrieving and analysing attendance and event data also becomes cumbersome when the physical file must be manually sorted. To overcome these problems, College Events Attendance Monitoring System is developed by following the Waterfall model, which has a stable cycle of development where the phases are carried out sequentially. Event organisers can add, edit, and delete events’ data from the system. Students can register as participants to an event, sign in to the event, rate the event, and see the history of events attended through the mobile app. As part of the security, user registration authentication is ensured through One-Time Passwords (OTPs). End-user evaluations indicated high satisfaction with the app’s features and usability.
2024-12-06T00:00:00+08:00Copyright (c) 2024 Journal of Mathematics and Computing Sciencehttps://journal.uitm.edu.my/ojs/index.php/JMCS/article/view/4267Challenges in Developing Artificial Intelligence-based Systems using Classic Software Development Life Cycle2024-12-09T02:31:23+08:00Noorihan Abdul Rahmannoorihan@uitm.edu.my
Artificial intelligence (AI) tools have become an essential part of modern software systems, driving automation, predictive analysis, and intelligent decision-making. However, the development of AI tools using traditional software engineering methodologies, specifically the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), presents unique challenges. This paper explores the intricacies and limitations of the classic SDLC in the context of AI-based system development, covering issues related to requirements gathering, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance. The analysis highlights the need for flexibility and iterative development models to meet the dynamic nature of AI projects. This paper summarises possible considerations that need to be taken care of since building AI-based systems requires a more flexible and iterative approach to accommodate the uncertainty, complexity, and dynamism in its own development.
2024-12-09T00:00:00+08:00Copyright (c) 2024 Journal of Mathematics and Computing Sciencehttps://journal.uitm.edu.my/ojs/index.php/JMCS/article/view/4268The Effectiveness of BCG Vaccination Using SEIR Mathematical Model of Tuberculosis Transmission2024-12-09T02:40:58+08:00Nurul Akma Mohamad Rasatnrakma18@uitm.edu.myMuhammad Shamil Afif Mohamad Sharanishamilafif89@gmail.comMuhammad Nur Arieff Roslanarieffroslan2912@gmail.comMuhammad Syahmi Ramlisyahmiramli06@gmail.comSuziana Aida Othmansuziana554@uitm.edu.my
Tuberculosis (TB) is an airborne contagious disease that poses a threat to the human population around the world. In 2022, an estimated 10.6 million people fell ill with TB worldwide, making it the common cause of death globally. Although the implementation of the BCG vaccination program has started since a decade, the vaccine itself offers limited protection. As immunity wanes over time, re-infection will occur even in vaccinated individuals. This paper discussed the effectiveness of BCG vaccination to control the spread of the disease. The SEIR mathematical model of TB transmission is constructed by considering the re-infection of vaccinated individuals. A brief analysis on the existence and local stability of the equilibria is conducted along with the basic reproduction number. The results showed that the value of R₀ is 1.46 in the absence of vaccination, while R₀ = 1.06 when the vaccination rate is at v = 0.55. However, as v ≥ 0.63, the value of R₀ is less than 1, indicating that the disease dies out. The numerical simulation proved the effectiveness of higher vaccination rates in order to eradicate the TB disease from the population. The study’s findings can contribute to the advancement of public health policy to control the spread of the disease.
2024-12-09T00:00:00+08:00Copyright (c) 2024 Journal of Mathematics and Computing Sciencehttps://journal.uitm.edu.my/ojs/index.php/JMCS/article/view/4269Design and Integration of IJTutors Tuition Center Management System2024-12-09T02:48:38+08:00Wan Salfarina Binti Wan Husainsalfa457@uitm.edu.myNur Aisah Binti Yani 2022923979@isiswa.uitm.edu.mySiti Hasrinafasya Binti Che Hassanhasrina581@uitm.edu.my
In recent years, managing the tuition centres using a traditional approach has become inefficient. It has also become inconvenient for both parents and students. This project recognises the competitive education landscape in Malaysia. It also acknowledges the growing demand for online tuition. Therefore, we suggest creating a web-based Tuition Centre Management System (TCMS) for the Iltizam Jaya Tuition Center. The current process for managing tuition is done manually, including tasks like registering new students, keeping track of their information, assessing them by subject and class, and organising study materials. This project aimed to streamline the processes, offering an accessible online platform for registration procedures, static timetable management, payment tracking, homework and lesson posting, subject management, and performance reporting, contributing to a more efficient and effective educational environment. The Iterative Waterfall Model methodology for Tuition Centre Management Development was used in this study. It covered the feasibility study phases, requirement analysis and specification, design, coding and unit testing, and maintenance. The results and discussion of the IJTutors TCMS explore the feedback from 30 respondents through assessments of the user interface and in-depth system testing using the System Usability Scale.
2024-12-09T00:00:00+08:00Copyright (c) 2024 Journal of Mathematics and Computing Sciencehttps://journal.uitm.edu.my/ojs/index.php/JMCS/article/view/4505The Impact of Socio-Health Factors Towards Life Expectancy across Countries using Machine Learning2024-12-31T12:08:18+08:00Mohamad Hafizuddin Roslans21a0025@siswa.umk.edu.mySiti Nur Kamariah AbRasids21a0055@siswa.umk.edu.myAlfi Tristan Al-Tavips23m0260@siswa.umk.edu.myNurzulaikha Abdullahnurzulaikha.mal@umk.edu.myFakhitah Ridzuanfakhitah.r@umk.edu.my

Life expectancy is a critical indicator of societal well-being and quality of life. Hence, project-based learning is seen as one of the ways an educator can use to promote learner autonomy in higher education. The software development course at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) is one of the project-based learning courses that require students to go through all phases of system development to solve real case studies. However, some students found that project-based learning is quite challenging since it often involves long-term projects that require clear time management skills. This long-term project needs sustained motivation from students. Without proper guidance and milestones, students may lose interest or fail to stay engaged. Agile methodology is suitable to be implemented for system development in realising project-based learning. Scrum methodology, a framework derived from Agile, helps ensure that system development is completed on time by dividing the development process into small, manageable cycles called sprints. The time-boxed nature of sprints helps avoid scope creep and delays, as the team must complete specific deliverables within a set time frame. In this paper, the development of a web-based system for home cleaning service is demonstrated using the Personal Scrum Methodology.
2024-12-31T00:00:00+08:00Copyright (c) 2024 Journal of Mathematics and Computing Sciencehttps://journal.uitm.edu.my/ojs/index.php/JMCS/article/view/4506Multiple Linear Regression Analysis on Factors Affecting Financial Literacy among Undergraduate Students2024-12-31T12:21:25+08:00Nur Niswah Naslina Azid @ Maarofniswah@uitm.edu.mySiti Noorul Ain Nor Azeminoorulain@uitm.edu.myNurul Hafizah Azizanhafizahaz@uitm.edu.myAhmad Syafiq Ahmad Rastonniswah@uitm.edu.myNurul Akmal Abdullahniswah@uitm.edu.mySiti Murni Bahrinniswah@uitm.edu.myWan Faizah Wan Yaacobniswah@uitm.edu.my

Financial literacy can be defined as the ability to read, analyse, manage, and communicate the personal financial conditions that affect material well-being. Most university students are facing financial crisis because they do not have the knowledge of how to manage their money. This study aims to determine financial literacy among UiTM Kota Bharu students. Thus, four factors had been examined, which were financial behaviour, financial knowledge, financial attitude, and family influences. The data was collected through an online questionnaire via the WhatsApp application to distribute to students at UiTM Kota Bharu. The research revealed that all factors had a significant effect on financial literacy, with Financial Attitude being the most significant influence, followed by Financial Knowledge, Family Influences and Financial Behaviour. Besides, the results of the study indicate that Grade Point Average (GPA) and Allowance factors have significant effects on students’ financial literacy. In contrast, the Gender factor did not have a significant effect on students’ financial literacy. The study helps to improve the knowledge and behaviour of young people to act on financial management.
2024-12-31T00:00:00+08:00Copyright (c) 2024 Journal of Mathematics and Computing Sciencehttps://journal.uitm.edu.my/ojs/index.php/JMCS/article/view/4509Determinants of Employment Intention among Undergraduate Students: A Multiple Linear Regression2024-12-31T14:17:34+08:00Nurul Hafizah Azizanhafizahaz@uitm.edu.myNor Hazreeni Hamzahreeni683@uitm.edu.myShamsunarnie Mohamed Zukrihafizahaz@uitm.edu.my Nurul Bariyah Ibrahimhafizahaz@uitm.edu.myNur Safwati Ibrahimhafizahaz@uitm.edu.my Noor Zafarina Mohd Fauzihafizahaz@uitm.edu.my

Graduates are a vital human resource for economic development, but many struggle to secure employment due to rising competition, evolving job market demands, and economic uncertainties. This study investigates the determinants of employment intention among undergraduate students, solely focusing on the effects of self-efficacy and self-readiness. Data were collected from 160 students at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Kelantan Branch using a semi-structured questionnaire that measured self-efficacy, self-readiness, and employment intention on a 10-point Likert scale. Multiple linear regression analysis revealed that both self-efficacy and self-readiness significantly impact students’ intention to seek employment after graduation, with self-readiness being the stronger predictor. The model explained 47.6% of the variation in employment intentions, indicating that while these two factors play a crucial role, other influences may also affect students’ decisions. The findings suggest that universities should focus on enhancing students’ readiness for the workforce and building their self-efficacy to better prepare them for future employment. Further research should consider additional factors influencing employment intentions and apply this model to other educational contexts for broader generalisation.
2024-12-31T00:00:00+08:00Copyright (c) 2024 Journal of Mathematics and Computing Sciencehttps://journal.uitm.edu.my/ojs/index.php/JMCS/article/view/4511Quantitative Analysis of Factors Influencing Cyberbullying among Tertiary Students Using Multiple Linear Regression2024-12-31T16:38:00+08:00Nurul Bariyah Ibrahimbariyah@uitm.edu.myNurul Aizzat Khairi Ishar2021816602@student.uitm.edu.myFatin Amalin Basimah Binti Mohd Nasirbariyah@uitm.edu.myNoor Zafarina Mohd Fauzibariyah@uitm.edu.myNur Safwati Ibrahimbariyah@uitm.edu.my

Cyberbullying is a serious issue that affects not only young victims but also perpetrators, victims’ families, and witnesses. This study aims to examine the factors influencing the perception of cyberbullying among UiTM Kota Bharu students. A total of 309 students were selected as the sample using a proportionate stratified sampling technique, and the questionnaires were distributed via Google Forms. Factors considered include internet addiction, self-esteem, and parent-child interaction. The study’s objectives are to identify the factors that influence perceptions of cyberbullying among university students. The findings from multiple linear regression analysis indicate that internet addiction, self-esteem, and parent-child interaction significantly influence (p-value = 0.000) perceptions of cyberbullying among university students. Furthermore, the correlation coefficient between internet addiction and the perception of cyberbullying is 0.746, suggesting a strong positive linear relationship. In contrast, there is a weak positive linear relationship between self-esteem and the perception of cyberbullying (r = 0.455). Additionally, a moderate positive linear relationship exists between parent-child interaction and perception of cyberbullying (r = 0.643). Understanding how internet addiction, self-esteem, and parent-child interaction contribute to perceptions of cyberbullying can help universities and policymakers develop better strategies to address this issue.
2024-12-31T00:00:00+08:00Copyright (c) 2024 Journal of Mathematics and Computing Sciencehttps://journal.uitm.edu.my/ojs/index.php/JMCS/article/view/4512Gamified Language Learning: Preserving Regional Dialects through Interactive Digital Platforms - A Case Study of the Kelantanese Dialect2024-12-31T16:43:32+08:00Muhammad Alhakim Shafie2022610938@student.uitm.edu.myAinul Azila Che Fauziainulazila@uitm.edu.myAsiah Matainulazila@uitm.edu.myAuni Fauziainulazila@uitm.edu.mySyerina Azlin Md Nasirainulazila@uitm.edu.my

The dynamic Kelantanese prioritise their dialect over anything else. It encourages regional traditions, mythologies, and historical narratives through song, dance, and drama. The dialect significantly influences Kelantanese social life, customs, and religion, providing speakers with a profound sense of identification and belonging. This distinctive cultural asset confronts significant difficulties. The Kelantanese dialect is under threat due to the younger generations’ transition to standard Malay and the absence of formal educational resources. The extensive use of media and communication technology generates apprehensions regarding linguistic uniformity, potentially undermining the Kelantanese dialect. To address these issues, this study focuses on the development and implementation of DialectMaster, a gamified web application designed to facilitate the learning of the Kelantanese dialect. By integrating engaging elements such as quizzes, progress tracking, and leaderboards, the application enhances user experience and learning outcomes. Technically, PostgreSQL was chosen for its reliability, with Drizzle ORM ensuring seamless database interactions and Next.js optimising server-side functionalities. Security was prioritised, resulting in the adoption of Clerk for authentication and encryption, thereby safeguarding data and enhancing user trust. Incentives such as points, badges, leaderboards, and quests were essential for prolonged engagement, while culturally pertinent content enhanced the relatability of the learning experience. The iterative development process employed agile methods incorporating AI-driven features, gamification aspects, and an intuitive user interface (UI), resulting in a dynamic tool for learning the Kelantanese dialect. The research highlights the advantages of gamification in education, illustrating how interactive components can enhance learner motivation and retention. DialectMaster emerges as a promising instrument for dialect acquisition, underscoring the significance of user-centred designs and gamified learning environments, with effective implementation and favourable user feedback accentuating its capacity to render the Kelantanese dialect enjoyable and accessible to learners.
2024-12-31T00:00:00+08:00Copyright (c) 2024 Journal of Mathematics and Computing Sciencehttps://journal.uitm.edu.my/ojs/index.php/JMCS/article/view/4514Enhancing Tourist Experiences through a Web-Based Scavenger Hunt: A Case Study of Kota Bharu’s Self-Guided Tour System2024-12-31T16:55:35+08:00Ainul Azila Che Fauziainulazila@uitm.edu.myArinah Izzati2020834486@student.uitm.edu.my

The tourism industry is a thriving sector globally, contributing significantly to economic growth and employment opportunities. Beyond the financial benefits, tourism enables individuals to immerse themselves in diverse cultures, languages, and histories, fostering cross-cultural understanding and enriching experiences. However, tourists often encounter challenges such as limited facilities and ineffective marketing strategies, which can hinder their overall travel experiences. To address these issues and enhance tourist experience, this study focuses on the development of a web-based system known as the Kota Bharu Self-Guided Scavenger Hunt and Tour. Following the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodology, specifically the waterfall model, this project aims to create an interactive and engaging platform for tourists. The web-based system offers a range of features designed to facilitate seamless exploration and enjoyment of tourist attractions. Users can easily access information about popular destinations, historical sites, cultural landmarks, and other points of interest. The system incorporates Google Maps integration, providing guided directions to ensure visitors easy navigation. Additionally, the platform allows users to upload photos, manage store and owner profiles, and access lists of players, store owners, stores, and checkpoints. By leveraging these functionalities, tourists can select specific categories of interest and embark on an exciting scavenger hunt adventure. Looking ahead, one future recommendation for further system enhancement is the exploration of a mobile application. Developing a mobile app would offer greater accessibility and convenience, allowing users to access the scavenger hunt and tour features directly from their smartphones. This would enable on-the-go access to information, navigation, and real-time updates, enhancing the overall user experience.
2024-12-31T00:00:00+08:00Copyright (c) 2024 Journal of Mathematics and Computing Science
