Designing CRISPR/Cas9 gene knockout system for Plasmodium falciparum erythrocyte membrane protein 1 (Pfemp1)

Malaria remains a significant global health challenge, with Plasmodium falciparum responsible for the most severe cases. The erythrocyte membrane protein 1 (PfEMP1) plays a critical role in the parasite's ability to invade human red blood cells, contributing to malaria's pathogenesis. This study aims to design a CRISPR/Cas9 gene knockout strategy targeting Pf EMP1 to inhibit its role in red blood cell invasion and reduce malaria transmission.
