Aim and Scope

Aims

The Malaysian Journal of Chemical Engineering and Technology (MJCET) aims to advance knowledge in chemical engineering through the publication of original research articles and critical review papers that contribute to the understanding, development and improvement of chemical processes, engineering materials and industrial technologies.

MJCET provides an international platform for rigorous experimental, computational and theoretical research addressing scientific, technological and industrial challenges. The journal emphasises chemical process and reaction engineering, separation and recovery technologies, materials for chemical engineering applications, and sustainable process technologies that improve process performance, resource utilisation and environmental outcomes.

Scope

MJCET welcomes original research articles and critical reviews in chemical engineering and closely related interdisciplinary areas, particularly those demonstrating a clear contribution to chemical engineering principles, methods or applications. The principal areas of interest include:

  1. Chemical Process and Reaction Engineering
Reaction kinetics, chemical reactors, process modelling and simulation, process optimisation, thermodynamics, heat and mass transfer, fluid mechanics, multiphase flows and process performance.
  2. Separation and Recovery Technologies
Distillation, adsorption, extraction, membrane processes, emulsion separation, purification and the recovery of valuable compounds, materials and resources.
  3. Materials for Chemical Engineering Applications
The development, modification and evaluation of adsorbents, polymers, composites, functional materials and other engineered materials for separation, purification, treatment, recovery and process applications.
  4. Sustainable and Environmental Process Technologies
Wastewater treatment, pollution control, waste valorisation, biomass utilisation, carbon capture, resource recovery and technologies that improve energy efficiency, resource utilisation and environmental performance.
  5. Chemical, Biochemical and Applied Process Technologies
Chemical and biological processing, bioengineering, natural product extraction, bio-based materials and related technologies where the research demonstrates a substantive chemical engineering contribution.
  6. Oil and Gas Processing and Related Technologies
Petroleum and natural gas processing, separation and purification, process efficiency and technological developments relevant to the oil and gas industries.
  7. Advanced Engineering Phenomena and Technologies
Interfacial and electrochemical phenomena, catalysis, mineral processing and other relevant engineering applications that advance chemical process understanding or performance.
  8. Chemical Engineering Education
Research on teaching and learning, curriculum development, engineering pedagogy and professional development that advances chemical engineering education.

Editorial Priorities and Scope Exclusions

MJCET prioritises manuscripts that demonstrate scientific originality, methodological rigour and a clear contribution to chemical engineering research or practice. Submissions should provide new insights, methodological advances, validated experimental findings, theoretical developments or practical solutions to relevant engineering problems. Authors should explain the engineering significance of their findings and support their conclusions through appropriate experimental evidence, validated modelling, systematic analysis or critical synthesis of the literature.

Studies focused solely on product formulation, routine chemical characterisation, general materials testing or descriptive chemical analysis, without a substantive chemical engineering contribution, fall outside the journal’s primary scope. Manuscripts that report routine analyses or incremental findings without sufficient scientific novelty are unlikely to be considered.
