About the Journal

The Journal of Emerging Legal Studies (JELS) is an international peer-reviewed (double-blind) academic journal established in 2026 to advance Emerging Legal Studies as an interdisciplinary area of contemporary legal scholarship. JELS examines how law, regulation and legal institutions evolve in response to technological, societal, sustainability and governance change.

Managed by the Faculty of Law and published by UiTM Press, Universiti Teknologi MARA, Malaysia, JELS provides an international forum for academics, researchers, legal practitioners, judges, policymakers and postgraduate scholars to publish rigorous research that advances legal knowledge and informs legal, regulatory and institutional development.

JELS publishes original research articles, review articles, case comments and interdisciplinary studies employing doctrinal, theoretical, comparative, empirical and socio-legal approaches. The journal welcomes scholarship that develops new legal concepts, evaluates regulatory approaches, examines institutional change or offers evidence-based insights with relevance across jurisdictions.

With a focus on legal innovation, regulatory change, transnational governance and institutional adaptation, JELS seeks to foster international scholarly exchange and contribute to informed responses to emerging legal challenges at national, regional and international levels.
