Abstract

The concept of Malaysia Madani as introduced by the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim aspires to establish Malaysia as a well-balanced developed nation founded on values, ethics and akhlaq. The journey to attain this holistic development is not an easy undertaking, especially in the midst of this current globalisation era that witnesses the rampant spread of Western ideologies that influences the society’s thoughts and lifestyle. Moreover, the impact of colonial knowledge brought by the West has rendered confusion of thought between truth and falsehood. The understanding of true knowledge is crucial to encounter this adversity. Therefore, this study analyses the model of Islamisation of Knowledge of Al-Ghazali as a scholar capable of clarifying confusion during his time. The methodology of this study employs a qualitative design, which is the application of library research. Primary data is drawn from al-Ghazali’s masterpiece, namely Al-Munqidh min al-Ḍalal (The Deliverance from Error), Iḥyāʾ ʿUlūm al-Dīn (The Revival of The Religious Sciences), and Maqāṣid al-Falāsifah (The Aims of Philosophers) to identify the model of Islamization of knowledge he applied. Following that, the data obtained will be analysed using content analysis to achieve the research objectives. The findings of the study indicate that the application of this model not only shapes a madani society that embody the noble and balanced value of rabbaniyah and insaniyah, but also fosters critical thinking and the ability to filter current ideologies.
