Staphylococcus argenteus is a close relative of Staphylococcus aureus that has gained prominence due to its involvement with a variety of infections. Within the intercellular adhesion (ica) locus, the IcaC protein emerges as a crucial element, playing its role as an O-succinyltransferase enzyme, significantly contributing to biofilm formation, specifically during maturation stage of biofilm and thereby amplifying the persistence of staphylococcal biofilms.
