Abstract

Wau Bulan, Wau Kucing and Wau Jala Budi are recognized as the Malay Traditional National Wau. Despite the nation's wide variety of  Wau across each state within the country. There are numerous research from past researchers focused on Wau Bulan, nevertheless the study of arts on Wau Jala Budi as one of the official Wau in Malaysia remains undiscovered. To ensure the gap of research related to the arts on Wau Jala Budi to be expose, interview and observation administrating qualitative method towards targeted experts of Wau Jala Budi from Kedah has been conducted. This research aims to identify and classify the motifs on Wau Jala Budi based on sources of inspiration. Based on the findings, the types of motifs appeared are floral, fauna and geometry categories. The study significant three groups of beneficiaries are governmental through the Malaysian Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Cultural, academicians from various academic institutional, and society of Malaysia and international community to have further documented findings and information on the form and motif of Wau in Malaysia.
