Abstract

This study explores the importance of preserving and revitalizing local Malaysian folklore through modern storytelling mediums, particularly motion comics. Folktales, once a vibrant part of oral tradition, are losing appeal among younger generations due to globalization and the dominance of international entertainment platforms. The project focuses on Selangor’s underappreciated folklore, leveraging motion comics as a cost-effective and accessible medium that combines visual storytelling, sound, and animation to reintroduce these tales. The initiative, titled Ceritera Rakyat Selangor, emphasizes the potential of motion comics to preserve local folklore digitally and to enhance tourism. The idea focuses on demonstrating Kota Melawati as historical landmarks and serving as educational tools within museums through engagement from the innovative media accessibility. By combining heritage preservation of local folklore with creative storytelling, the project not only fosters family values and promotes local tourism but also opens opportunities for brand collaborations. The study concludes by emphasizing the necessity of collaboration between industry and government to ensure the survival and global reach of local folklore through contemporary media platforms.
