Publication Ethics

The International Journal of Art and Design (IJAD) is committed to maintaining high standards of integrity, transparency and ethical conduct in scholarly publishing. This statement outlines the ethical responsibilities of editors, reviewers and authors, as well as the procedures followed in addressing publication-related concerns.

The Journal adheres to the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Core Practices to ensure editorial and publication integrity, as well as the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT) for accurate attribution of authorship.

IJAD confirms that its internal workflows for handling cases of misconduct, authorship disputes and ethical complaints are strictly aligned with COPE Core Practices. In any instance where the journal's internal policies are silent, the COPE guidelines shall serve as the prevailing authority.

1. Editorial Independence and Decision-Making
Editorial decisions are made by the Editor-in-Chief based on:

  • Relevance to the journal’s scope
  • Originality and contribution to the field
  • Methodological soundness and clarity of analysis

Editorial decisions are made independently and are not influenced by the publisher or external parties.

2. Editorial Responsibilities
Editors are responsible for:

  • Managing the editorial and peer review process
  • Ensuring fair and unbiased evaluation of manuscripts
  • Maintaining confidentiality of submitted work
  • Addressing potential conflicts of interest
  • Responding to ethical concerns or complaints

Editors do not use unpublished materials for personal or professional advantage.

3. Reviewer Responsibilities
Reviewers are expected to:

  • Provide objective and constructive evaluations
  • Maintain confidentiality of manuscripts
  • Declare any conflicts of interest
  • Refrain from using manuscript content for personal or competitive purposes

Reviewers should decline invitations if they are unable to provide a timely or impartial review.

4. Author Responsibilities
Authors are responsible for:

  • Submitting original work that accurately reflects the research conducted
  • Properly acknowledging sources and avoiding plagiarism
  • Ensuring that the manuscript is not under consideration elsewhere
  • Disclosing any conflicts of interest
  • Providing accurate author information and contributions

Where applicable, studies involving human or animal subjects should include appropriate ethical approvals in accordance with relevant standards.

5. Authorship and Contribution Transparency
Authorship is limited to individuals who have made a significant contribution to the research and have approved the final version of the manuscript.

6. Research Misconduct
The journal does not permit:

  • Plagiarism
  • Data fabrication or falsification
  • Duplicate or redundant publication
  • Citation manipulation

Manuscripts may be screened for similarity prior to review.
Allegations of misconduct are reviewed by the editorial team. Authors may be contacted for clarification and further investigation may be conducted before a final decision is reached. IJAD adheres to the COPE guidelines to ensure that all cases are handled fairly and consistently.

7. Post-Publication Corrections
When necessary, the journal may issue:

  • Corrections
  • Retractions

Such actions are taken to maintain the accuracy and integrity of the scholarly record. All notices are clearly identified and linked to the original article.

8. Complaints and Appeals
Authors, reviewers or readers may submit complaints or appeals regarding editorial decisions or publication processes to the editorial office.
All cases are reviewed by the Editor-in-Chief, and additional editorial members may be consulted where appropriate. Decisions are communicated to the relevant parties after review.

9. Data Protection and Confidentiality
All personal data collected during the submission and review process are handled in accordance with the journal’s privacy policy. Information is used solely for editorial and publication purposes.
