Abstract

Financial literacy plays a critical role in enabling young individuals to make informed and responsible financial decisions, particularly in an environment where financial products and investment options become more complex. Embedding Islamic finance education into personal finance education can effectively guide young individuals toward responsible financial behaviour, informed financial choices and sustainable financial practices. This study examined the effect of financial attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control on financial planning behaviour among 200 university students in UiTM Melaka. A quantitative research design was applied and the data were analyzed using multiple linear regression. The findings demonstrate that financial attitude and perceived behavioral control significantly influence students’ financial planning behavior, with financial attitude exerting the strongest effect, while subjective norms had no significant effect. The results highlight that cultivating positive financial attitudes, reinforcing self-control and incorporating Islamic finance education play a crucial role in shaping responsible and sustainable financial behaviour among youth, enabling them to better navigate future financial challenges.
