In today’s world, artificial intelligence (AI) is vastly used in our daily life including the education sector. It seems that AI is a necessity as it helps to ease the burden of human beings. Hence, the purpose of this paper is to examine students' perceptions on the impact, usage, knowledge and overall perception on the use of AI in academic writing. By employing a quantitative research approach, 349 responses were obtained and the data were analysed using SPSS v29. The data later were presented in mean, standard deviation and t-test in tables. It was discovered that the majority of students have a positive attitude and perceptions on the use of AI in academic writing. This could be implied that the stakeholders may need to consider integrating AI in the curriculum and also in the process of teaching and learning. Nonetheless, AI should be used moderately and ethically as AI also lacks in certain aspects. Therefore, as technologies are becoming more advanced, the educators need to equip themselves with the necessary digital skills to be relevant and equal with the skills possessed by students.
