This editorial explores the growing importance of Non-Traditional Research Outputs (NTROs) in the creative arts, highlighting how they become option for research outputs rather than conventional academic research models. NTROs, which encompass artistic practices are redefining what constitutes legitimate research in the arts. This shift moves beyond the traditional text-based outputs, recognizing the creative process itself as a form of knowledge generation. The editorial also discusses the pedagogical benefits of NTROs emphasizing the role of technology in blending creative practice with academic inquiry. This approach fosters a dynamic, reflective learning environment that engages both researchers and academia in creative, process-driven research. Further, the integration of technology in artistic practice, such as the use of gesture-based instruments and artificial intelligence, is reshaping both the methodologies and outcomes of artistic research. Artistic practice-based projects illustrate how technology is not only enhancing artistic expression but also acting as a catalyst for new forms of knowledge production. Finally, the editorial discusses the future of NTROs, emphasizing the need for institutions to adapt their evaluation frameworks to include these dynamic, interdisciplinary research outputs and foster a more inclusive approach to creative arts research.
