Directors often struggle to reconcile personal creative vision with audience preference, particularly in face of shifting market trend and uprising fast-paced media consumption. Industry instability, characterized by unpredictable work cycle and low salary, often obliges seeking of financially stable career beyond filmmaking. Censorship exacerbates the situation by restraining sensitive themes, hence hindering the creativity. Cultural barrier is also significant as outdated stereotype, familiar to many Western audiences, would limit international appeals of Chinese film. Financial pressure, driven by high star salary and limited budget for else, prioritizes commercially viable project at the expense of creativity. Furthermore, underdeveloped support structure & professional training within the industry impedes the growth and sustainability of emerging filmmakers. Whatsoever, still the directors strive for innovative means over difficulty. The paper concludes by emphasizing systemic reforms to create an environment for coexistence of both artistic freedom & industry sustainability, higher relevance of Chinese film directors, and support of both innovation & diverse storytelling.
