This study investigates the design and performance of a low-cost, buildable solar oven as a sustainable and eco-friendly cooking solution. Unlike many existing studies that focus on engineered or commercially optimized solar cookers, this work addresses the gap in simple, easily assembled designs made entirely from recyclable materials suitable for outdoor and recreational use. The solar oven was constructed using cardboard, aluminum foil, black spray paint and clear plastic wrap, and tested through four experimental trials under direct sunlight using common food items such as eggs, sausages and marshmallows. Results indicated a maximum temperature of 71 °C after 90 minutes, sufficient for basic cooking without reliance on non-renewable energy sources. Environmental factors such as solar intensity and ambient temperature influenced performance. The findings demonstrate both the environmental benefits through zero-emission cooking and the economic advantages of utilizing inexpensive materials, highlighting the potential of this solar oven as an accessible tool for sustainable outdoor cooking applications.
