Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement

The Journal of Islamic Philanthropy & Social Finance (JIPSF) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics, research integrity and editorial transparency. The journal expects editors, reviewers, authors and the publisher to uphold ethical and professional standards throughout the publication process.

JIPSF follows the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Core Practices and applies internationally recognised best practices in editorial decision-making, peer review and the management of publication misconduct.

JIPSF follows these international standards:

This statement applies to editors, editorial board members, reviewers, authors and the publisher.

1. Responsibilities of Editors

Editors are responsible for ensuring that manuscripts are evaluated fairly, objectively and confidentially.

Editors shall:

  • make editorial decisions based solely on scholarly merit, originality, methodological quality and relevance to the journal;
  • maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts;
  • manage conflicts of interest appropriately;
  • ensure an independent and impartial peer-review process;
  • investigate suspected publication misconduct; and
  • publish corrections, retractions or expressions of concern where necessary.

2. Responsibilities of Reviewers

Reviewers support editorial decisions through independent, objective and confidential peer review.

Reviewers shall:

  • provide constructive and unbiased evaluations;
  • maintain confidentiality;
  • disclose any conflicts of interest;
  • report suspected plagiarism, duplicate publication or other ethical concerns; and
  • complete reviews within the agreed timeframe whenever possible.

JIPSF expects reviewers to follow the COPE Ethical Guidelines for Peer Reviewers.

3. Responsibilities of Authors

Authors are responsible for the integrity of their research and submitted manuscripts.

Authors shall:

  • submit original work that is not under consideration elsewhere;
  • present research honestly and accurately;
  • acknowledge the work of others through appropriate citation;
  • avoid plagiarism, duplicate publication, data fabrication and data falsification;
  • disclose funding sources and competing interests;
  • ensure that all listed authors have made substantial scholarly contributions; and
  • notify the editor promptly if significant errors are identified after submission or publication.

4. Authorship and Research Integrity

Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made substantial scholarly contributions to the research.

Guest, honorary and ghost authorship are unacceptable.

Authors are expected to conduct research ethically and comply with applicable institutional, national and international ethical requirements. Where required, appropriate ethics approval and informed consent must be obtained.

JIPSF recognises the CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy) to promote transparency in author contributions.

5. Publication Misconduct

JIPSF does not tolerate publication misconduct.

Examples include:

  • plagiarism and self-plagiarism;
  • duplicate or redundant publication;
  • data fabrication or falsification;
  • citation or authorship manipulation;
  • peer-review manipulation;
  • unethical research practices; and
  • paper mill submissions.

Suspected misconduct will be investigated in accordance with COPE guidance and may result in manuscript rejection, publication correction, retraction or notification of the relevant institution where appropriate.

6. Conflicts of Interest

Authors, reviewers and editors must disclose any financial, professional or personal interests that could influence, or reasonably be perceived to influence, the publication process.

Where conflicts exist, appropriate measures will be taken to ensure an independent and unbiased editorial decision.

7. Corrections and Retractions

JIPSF is committed to preserving the integrity of the scholarly record.

Where necessary, the journal may publish corrections, retractions or expressions of concern in accordance with COPE guidance. Such notices will remain permanently linked to the published article to ensure transparency.

8. Publisher Responsibilities

UiTM Press supports editorial independence, ethical publishing practices and research integrity. Editorial decisions are made independently by the Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Board based solely on scholarly merit and ethical considerations, without influence from commercial or institutional interests.
