About the Journal

The Journal of Creative Arts (e-ISSN: 3030-6086) was established in December 2023 following a rigorous screening process by the Research Management Centre (RMC), UiTM. A special setup committee was formed by the Kolej Pengajian Seni Kreatif (KPSK) to foundationally establish the journal, spearheaded by Professor Dr. Oskar, Associate Professor Dr. Sharifah Faizah, Associate Professor Dr. Razeef, Associate Professor Dr. Md Jais, and Dr. Norman. The establishment was further supported by BITCOM and the UiTM Legal Advisor Office to ensure full compliance with university regulations. Currently, JCA operates under the administration of the Institut Seni Kreatif Nusantara (INSAN), a High Centre of Excellence (Hi-CoE) specializing in the creative arts under the monitoring and oversight of the Research Management Centre, UiTM. JCA launched its first Call for Papers in January 2024 and successfully published its inaugural issue in May 2024. Comprising distinguished experts and creative practitioners from various regions globally, the JCA editorial team is dedicated to upholding journal quality while advancing its overarching vision and mission.

Scope and Focus:

The Journal of Creative Arts covers a broad spectrum of artistic fields, including but not limited to:

  • Fine Arts: painting, sculpture, printmaking, drawing and related visual art practices
  • Literary Arts: poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, creative writing and literary studies
  • Music: composition, performance, ethnomusicology, music education, music technology, music cognition, and music business
  • Performing Arts: drama, theatre, dance, traditional and folk performance, storytelling and related performance practices
  • Media Arts: film, video, animation, photography, multimedia and related screen-based practices
  • Digital Arts and Design: graphic design, industrial design, fashion design, digital modelling, 3D modelling and emerging creative technologies
  • Architecture and Built Environment: architectural design, spatial design, interior architecture, landscape architecture, heritage preservation and architectural conservation, urban design, and sustainable built environments

The uniqueness of this journal lies in its policy allowing contributors to submit research papers alongside videos as Non-Traditional Research Outputs (NTROs). We recognize arts videos as effective tools to convey a deeper and more accurate understanding of arts research, particularly since certain artistic data are abstract and cannot be fully captured through conventional writing or statistical metrics alone. In our effort to produce high-impact creative arts publications, JCA is dedicated to elevating the Malay language by permitting authors to submit manuscripts in Bahasa Melayu, while simultaneously safeguarding and preserving traditional arts heritage from fading over time.
