Aims and Scope

Aim

The Journal of Creative Arts (JCA) is an international peer reviewed journal dedicated to advancing knowledge through creative inquiry, artistic practice and interdisciplinary scholarship. The journal examines how creative practices generate, communicate and transform knowledge across artistic, cultural, technological, social and human contexts.

JCA provides a scholarly platform for research that crosses disciplinary boundaries and positions creativity as a means of knowledge production, experimentation, innovation, cultural interpretation and societal transformation. The journal welcomes theoretically informed, empirically grounded and practice-based research that contributes to the development of creative arts scholarship and practice.

Scope

The Journal of Creative Arts welcomes original research and scholarly contributions across a broad range of creative and artistic fields, including but not limited to:

  • Fine Arts: painting, sculpture, printmaking, drawing and related visual art practices
  • Literary Arts: poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, creative writing and literary studies
  • Music: composition, performance, ethnomusicology, music education, music technology and music business
  • Performing Arts: drama, theatre, dance, traditional and folk performance, storytelling and related performance practices
  • Media Arts: film, video, animation, photography, multimedia and related screen-based practices
  • Digital Arts and Design: graphic design, industrial design, fashion design, digital modelling, 3D modelling and emerging creative technologies

JCA particularly encourages interdisciplinary research that examines the relationship between creative practice and wider developments in culture, society, technology, education and innovation. Contributions may employ appropriate theoretical, qualitative, quantitative, historical, critical, methodological or practice-based approaches, provided that they demonstrate clear scholarly contribution and relevance to the journal's aims and scope.

The journal does not limit creative arts research to established disciplinary categories and welcomes emerging forms of creative practice that contribute meaningfully to contemporary artistic scholarship, knowledge production and cultural development.
