Instructions for Authors

1. Type of Submission

a) Artwork Report
Video performance (theatre, dance, orchestra, opera, etc.) with some written results (800-1000 words).

b) Manuscripts
Research Article (5000-8000 words), Review Article (5000-8000 words), Book Review (800-1000 words), Interview (800-1000 words), Memoriam (800-1000 words).

2. Language

Articles can be written in English or Bahasa Malaysia.

3. Artwork Report Structure

a) Videos must be related to the scope of creative arts fields: Music, Fine Arts, Digital Arts & Images, Liberal Arts, Performing Arts, and Design.

b) The maximum duration for the video is 30 minutes.
The type of video depends on the scope of creative arts fields such as orchestra, theater, dance, singing, painting techniques, and so on.

Article Format & Style

1. Article Structure

  • Title: Concise and descriptive, highlighting the core themes (e.g., From Credit Requirement to Meaningful Learning).
  • Abstract: A single paragraph (approx. 200–250 words) summarizing the study’s purpose, theoretical lens, methodology, key findings, and implications.
  • Keywords: Provide 5–7 keywords for indexing (e.g., Experiential learning, Co-curricular learning).
  • Introduction: Define the educational/artistic landscape, state the problem/gap, and clearly outline the study’s objectives.
  • Literature Review & Theoretical Framework: Synthesize existing research and define the specific theories guiding the analysis (e.g., Transformative Learning Theory).
  • Methodology: Detail the research design (e.g., qualitative interpretive), context, participants, and data analysis methods (e.g., thematic analysis).
  • Results/Findings: Present themes supported by evidence (such as participant quotes or data tables).
  • Discussion: Interpret findings through the theoretical lenses established earlier and compare them with existing literature.
  • Conclusion: Summarize the contribution to the field and offer practical implications or suggestions for future research.

2. APA 7th Edition Formatting Requirements

The Journal of Creative Arts requires strictly adhering to the APA 7th Edition style for all manuscripts. Please ensure the following:

Text Formatting

  • Font: Use a standard, readable font such as Times New Roman (12 pt), Arial (11 pt), or Calibri (11 pt).
  • Spacing: Double-space the entire manuscript, including the reference list and block quotes.
  • Margins: 1-inch (2.54 cm) on all sides.
  • Page Header: Include a page number in the top right corner. (Note: A "Running Head" is no longer required for student papers, but professional manuscripts should include a shortened title in the header).

In-Text Citations

  • Direct Quotes: Provide the author, year, and page number: (Author, 2026, p. 175).
  • Paraphrasing: Provide the author and year: (Kolb, 1984).
  • Multiple Authors: * Two authors: Use both names every time (Braun & Clarke, 2006).
    • Three or more authors: Use the first author followed by "et al." from the first citation (Creech et al., 2016).

Reference List

  • Heading: Center the word References in bold at the top of a new page.
  • Hanging Indent: All references must have a hanging indent (0.5 inches).
  • DOI/URL: Include DOIs for all sources where available, formatted as functional hyperlinks (e.g., https://doi.org/10.xxxx/xxxxx).
  • Journal Articles: Capitalize only the first letter of the first word of the article title. Italicize the Journal Name and Volume Number.

3. Tables and Visuals

  • Labeling: Number tables and figures sequentially (Table 1, Table 2).
  • Title: Provide a brief, italicized title above the table.
  • Formatting: Use clear headings and avoid vertical lines within the table.
