Instructions for Authors

GUIDE FOR AUTHORS

E-Journal of Islamic Thought & Understanding (E-JITU) welcomes original scholarly manuscripts that contribute to the study and understanding of Islam and related disciplines within the journal’s scope.

1. LANGUAGE

Manuscripts may be submitted in either Bahasa Melayu or English. Authors are responsible for ensuring that the manuscript is written clearly, accurately, and with appropriate academic language.

For manuscripts written in English, authors are encouraged to use UK English consistently throughout the manuscript.

2. TYPES OF MANUSCRIPTS

E-JITU accepts original research articles and conceptual articles that make a clear scholarly contribution to the field of Islamic Studies and related areas within the journal’s scope.

Manuscripts must be original and must not have been previously published or be under consideration for publication in another journal.

3. MANUSCRIPT TEMPLATE AND FORMAT

All manuscripts must be prepared using the latest E-JITU manuscript template, which can be downloaded from the E-JITU website.

Authors are required to follow the formatting, structure, styles, headings, spacing, tables, figures, and other specifications provided in the template.

The manuscript must be prepared using Microsoft Word (.docx) format.

Authors must not alter the predefined formatting, styles, layout, or structure of the E-JITU template. The Styles Gallery provided in the template should be used when formatting the manuscript.

Manuscripts should be prepared in a single-column format. Page numbers should not be inserted by the authors.

Figures and tables must be embedded within the manuscript and should not be submitted as separate files unless specifically requested by the Editorial Office.

4. TITLE, ABSTRACT AND KEYWORDS

The manuscript title should be concise, clear, and accurately reflect the content of the manuscript.

The abstract must not exceed 300 words and should provide a clear summary of the purpose, methodology, main findings or discussion, and conclusion of the study, where applicable.

A maximum of six (6) keywords should be provided. Keywords should reflect the main concepts and themes of the manuscript and should be specific and relevant to the subject matter.

5. MANUSCRIPT STRUCTURE

Authors should follow the structure and heading styles provided in the latest E-JITU template.

The manuscript should generally contain the following elements, where applicable:

• Introduction
• Literature Review / Theoretical Framework
• Methodology
• Results / Findings
• Discussion
• Conclusion
• Acknowledgements / Funding
• Conflict of Interest
• Authors’ Contributions
• Declaration of Generative AI in the Writing Process, where applicable
• Data Availability / Supplementary Materials, where applicable
• References
• Appendix, where applicable

The structure may vary according to the nature and methodology of the manuscript. Authors should ensure that the organisation of the manuscript is appropriate to the research design and scholarly argument.

6. TABLES

All tables must be numbered consecutively using Arabic numerals.

Table titles should be placed above the table and formatted according to the Table Caption style provided in the E-JITU template.

Tables must be integrated into the manuscript and appropriately referred to in the text.

The source of data must be stated where applicable.

7. FIGURES, DIAGRAMS AND ILLUSTRATIONS

All figures, photographs, diagrams, charts, and other visual materials must be numbered consecutively using Arabic numerals and referred to appropriately in the text.

Figure captions should be placed below the respective figure and formatted according to the Figure Caption style provided in the template.

Figures must be of sufficient quality and resolution for publication.

Conceptual and theoretical frameworks should preferably be created using editable or vector-based objects rather than low-resolution image files.

8. EQUATIONS AND FORMULAS

Where applicable, equations and formulas should be prepared using the appropriate equation tools in Microsoft Word and numbered consecutively.

Authors should ensure that all equations and formulas are clearly presented and appropriately referred to in the manuscript.

9. CITATION AND REFERENCING

E-JITU follows the American Psychological Association (APA) 7th edition referencing style.

All sources cited in the text must appear in the reference list, and all references listed must be cited in the manuscript.

Authors are responsible for ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of all in-text citations and references.

Authors are encouraged to provide DOI links or stable URLs where available.

10. ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS AND FUNDING

Where applicable, authors must provide an Acknowledgements and/or Funding statement in the designated section of the manuscript.

Acknowledgements should not be included on the title page or as a footnote to the manuscript title.

11. CONFLICT OF INTEREST

Authors must disclose any actual or potential conflict of interest that may have influenced the research, writing, or publication of the manuscript.

Where no conflict of interest exists, authors should provide an appropriate declaration in the designated section of the manuscript.

12. AUTHORS’ CONTRIBUTIONS

For manuscripts with more than one author, the contribution of each author should be clearly stated.

Authors are encouraged to use the CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy) to describe individual contributions to the research and manuscript.

13. GENERATIVE AI AND AI-ASSISTED TECHNOLOGIES

Authors must disclose the use of generative AI or AI-assisted technologies in the writing process where applicable.

AI tools must not be listed as authors or co-authors. Authors remain fully responsible for the originality, accuracy, integrity, and scholarly content of the submitted manuscript.

Where generative AI has been used in the writing process, an appropriate declaration should be included in the manuscript in accordance with the E-JITU Generative AI Policy.

14. DATA AVAILABILITY AND SUPPLEMENTARY MATERIALS

Where applicable, authors are encouraged to provide information regarding the availability of data or supplementary materials supporting the research.

If relevant, authors should provide a stable link, DOI, or other appropriate access information for supplementary materials.

15. AUTHOR INFORMATION AND DOUBLE-BLIND REVIEW

E-JITU employs a double-blind peer-review process.

To facilitate the review process, authors are required to submit two manuscript files:

a. Complete Manuscript
A complete version of the manuscript prepared using the latest E-JITU template, including the authors’ names, affiliations, corresponding author details, and other required author information.

b. Anonymous Manuscript
A complete manuscript prepared using the same E-JITU template but without the authors’ names, affiliations, email addresses, acknowledgements, or any other information that may reveal the identity of the authors.

Authors must ensure that the anonymous manuscript does not contain identifying information in the main text, file properties, acknowledgements, or other sections.

Author biographies and contact information should be provided separately in the designated author information file, where required.

16. REVISION OF MANUSCRIPTS

Manuscripts returned to authors for revision must be revised carefully in response to the comments and recommendations provided by the reviewers and/or the Editor.

Authors are required to submit the revised manuscript within fourteen (14) days from the date of the revision request. The revised submission should include all required files and should follow the latest E-JITU manuscript template and submission requirements.

Where applicable, authors should ensure that all revisions are clearly addressed and that the revised manuscript is carefully checked for accuracy, completeness, and consistency before resubmission.

If additional time is required, authors may request an extension from the Editor-in-Chief before the revision deadline. Extension requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

17. MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSION

All manuscripts must be submitted through the E-JITU online submission system.

Before submitting, authors should ensure that:

• the manuscript follows the latest E-JITU template;
• the manuscript is written in Bahasa Melayu or English;
• the abstract does not exceed 300 words;
• no more than six (6) keywords are provided;
• all tables and figures are properly numbered, captioned, and embedded;
• references and citations follow APA 7th edition;
• all required declarations and statements have been included where applicable;
• both the complete manuscript and anonymous manuscript have been prepared; and
• the submitted files are in Microsoft Word (.docx) format.

Manuscripts that do not comply with the E-JITU submission requirements may be returned to the authors for correction or may be declined at the initial editorial screening stage.

Authors are strongly advised to review the latest E-JITU template and all relevant journal policies before making a submission.
