Use of GenAI

Introduction

The Advances in Business Research International Journal (ABRIJ) values research integrity, transparency, and ethical publishing. This policy guides authors, reviewers, editors, and readers on the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools, including Generative AI (GenAI) and Large Language Models (LLMs).

Permitted AI support includes:

  • Generating ideas.
  • Improving language and clarity.
  • Creating basic data visualizations.
  • Providing simple analysis assistance.

AI tools are supplementary; they do not replace human creativity, critical thinking, ethical judgment, or scholarly interpretation.

Risks and Limitations of AI Tools

While AI can be helpful, it poses risks such as:

  • Inaccuracy and Bias: AI may produce incorrect, biased, or misleading content.
  • Confidentiality Risks: Uploading sensitive or copyrighted data can breach privacy and security.
  • Improper Attribution:  AI cannot reliably cite sources, increasing plagiarism risk.
  • Unintended Data Sharing: Public AI tools may store or reuse uploaded content.
  • Rights Infringement: AI platforms may reuse material, affecting authors’ and publishers’ rights.

Responsibilities of Authors

Authors are fully responsible for how AI is used in their work. They must:

  • Ensure AI use follows ethical approvals, copyright, and data protection rules.
  • Verify accuracy, originality, and reliability of all results.
  • Take complete ownership of the interpretation and meaning of their research.

Mandatory AI Use Statement: If AI tools are used, authors must declare in the Methods or Acknowledgements:

  • The AI tool(s) and version used.
  • How they were used (e.g., grammar check, figure enhancement).
  • Why they were used.

Prohibited AI uses:

  • Generating research content, interpreting results, or drawing conclusions.
  • Listing AI as an author.

Responsibilities of Editors and Reviewers

  • Maintain confidentiality in all manuscripts.
  • Do not upload manuscripts or data to public AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT).
  • Only use institution-approved AI tools (e.g., Microsoft Word Editor, Grammarly Enterprise) for editing review reports, not manuscript analysis.
  • Avoid any AI use that risks confidentiality or review integrity.

Undisclosed or Improper AI Use

If AI use is undisclosed or inappropriate, ABRIJ may:

  • Investigate under COPE guidelines.
  • Decline the manuscript or withdraw the article.
  • Notify the authors’ institution.

Commitment to Research Integrity

This policy reinforces ABRIJ’s commitment to ethical scholarship, transparency, and global publishing standards. By following these guidelines, all parties help maintain the trust, credibility, and quality of research in line with COPE and Scopus requirements.
