Guide for Authors

1. Article Types

JIBE accepts the following categories:

  • Original research articles
  • Review articles
  • Conceptual and theoretical papers

All submissions must provide a substantive scholarly contribution and exhibit methodological or conceptual rigor.

2. Submission Conditions

By submitting a manuscript, authors confirm that:

  • The manuscript is original, has not been published previously and is not under consideration for publication elsewhere.
  • The submission falls within the journal’s scope.
  • The manuscript is written in clear academic English.
  • All authors have approved the final version of the manuscript.
  • The manuscript is not purely descriptive and includes analytical contributions.

Failure to meet these conditions may result in rejection or return of the manuscript prior to peer review.

3. Manuscript Preparation

3.1 Structure

Manuscripts should follow a recognized scholarly structure. For empirical papers, the IMRaD format (Introduction, Methodology, Results and Discussion) is expected, where appropriate.

3.2 Language and Style

  • Use formal, precise and consistent academic English.
  • Ensure clarity, coherence and logical organization.
  • Professional language editing is recommended if necessary.

3.3 Referencing

  • Follow APA (7th edition) style.
  • Ensure that all references are accurate, relevant, and verifiable.

4. Author Information

Submissions must include the following details for all authors:

  • Full author names
  • Institutional affiliations and countries
  • Valid email address for each author
  • Corresponding author designation
  • ORCID iD (strongly encouraged)

Authors are responsible for the accuracy of all submitted information.

5. Authorship and Contributions

All authors must:

  • Have made substantial contributions to the work.
  • Approve the final manuscript.
  • Accept accountability for the work.

Authors' specific roles must be described using the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT):

6. Ethical Standards and Reporting Requirements

JIBE follows the principles and practices of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Core Practices. Authors are expected to comply with the journal's Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement throughout the submission, peer review and publication process. To promote transparency, accountability and responsible research practices, authors must provide the following statements, where applicable:

  • Data Availability: Authors must state whether the data supporting the study's findings are available. Where applicable, authors should provide a link to the dataset or repository. If the data are not publicly available, authors should explain the reason for the restriction.
  • Funding Information: Authors must disclose all sources of financial support for the research. If the research did not receive external funding, authors should state: "This research received no external funding."
  • Ethics Approval: Authors must confirm that an appropriate ethics committee or institutional review board approved research involving human participants or animals. Where applicable, authors should provide the name of the approving body and the approval reference number. If ethics approval does not apply, authors should state: "Not applicable."
  • Conflict of Interest: Authors must disclose any actual or potential conflicts of interest that could influence the research. If no conflicts exist, authors should state: "The authors declare no conflict of interest."
  • Author Contributions: Authors must describe each author's contributions using the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT) framework.
  • Disclosure of AI Use: Authors must disclose any use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools in preparing the manuscript, including the specific purpose of their use (e.g., language editing, grammar checking, or formatting assistance). Authors may not list AI tools as authors and remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of the manuscript. If authors did not use AI tools, they should state: "AI tools were not used in the preparation of this manuscript."
  • Acknowledgements: Authors may acknowledge individuals, institutions, or organizations that contributed to the research but do not meet the criteria for authorship. Authors must obtain permission from any individual they acknowledge by name.

If any statement does not apply, authors should clearly indicate this in the manuscript.

7. Submission Process

  • Manuscripts must be submitted through the journal’s online submission system.
  • Authors must submit two manuscript versions to facilitate double-blind peer review:

(i) an anonymized manuscript containing no author-identifying information for peer review; and
(ii) a complete manuscript including all author names, affiliations and corresponding author contact details for editorial use.

  • Ensure all required metadata and files are complete. Incomplete submissions may be returned without review.

8. Peer Review

All submitted manuscripts undergo an initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that pass the initial screening and are considered suitable for further consideration are sent for double blind peer review by at least two independent reviewers. Manuscripts may be declined at the initial editorial screening stage without external peer review if they do not meet the journal's requirements.

9. Post-Acceptance

After acceptance, authors will:

  • Review proofs prior to publication.
  • Be requested to make minor corrections, if necessary.
  • Retain final responsibility for the accuracy of the manuscript.

10. Journal Policies

By submitting a manuscript to JIBE, authors confirm that they have read and complied with this Guide for Authors and agree to comply with all applicable journal policies, including the Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement, Peer Review Policy, Plagiarism Policy, Retraction, Correction and Withdrawal Policy, Conflict of Interest Policy, Use of Generative AI Policy, Copyright and License Policy, Open Access Policy and Archiving Policy.

These policies are available on the journal website and form an integral part of the journal's submission and publication requirements.
